Pitch Perfect 2 News: Elizabeth Banks’ first feature film directorial debut
The surprise hit of 2012, Pitch Perfect, is up for a sequel and this time around the movie will be directed by actress Elizabeth Banks.
Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, Elizabeth Banks and Skylar Astin will return to reprise their roles. The sequel will have additional casts such as Hailee Steinfield from the acclaimed movie, True Grit and Katey Sagal of Sons of Anarchy, where they will both play a mother and daughter tandem. The film is loosely adapted from Mickey Rapkin's non-fiction book, titled Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory.
On the part of Elizabeth Banks, she was not the original choice as Gail, the commentator. The role was first offered to Kristen Wiig and luckily she got the role as she will be making her full-length feature film directorial debut with this film.
Along with another riff off and bigger, more involved musical numbers, Rebel Wilson revealed to EW that there will be more physicality to her part.
"I've been training with this coach from Cirque du Soleil for the opening sequence. It is a little bit, inspired by Pink's performance, and it is extremely difficult. They couldn't get a stunt double my size to do it. So they said, 'Let's just make Rebel do it. Is she afraid of heights? Yes? Let's just put her up there. That should be hilarious.'"
The film's synopsis is: The Barden Bellas enter an international acapella competition that no American group has ever won.
Elizabeth Banks explained, "They are prohibited-and I won't say why-from competing at the collegiate level. So they are sort of forced to enter a professional world competition in order to be reinstated."
Everything else about Pitch Perfect 2 is being kept as secret as possible. However, if things go well for the sequel, there are talks that Universal will be considering a Pitch Perfect 3.
Catch Pitch Perfect 2 in theaters on May 15, 2015.
