Emma Stone latest news: Emma Stone takes over Broadway in her spectacular take on Cabaret’s Sally Bowles
Emma Stone may have been spotted with boyfriend of three years, Andrew Garfield, with cups of coffee at hand in New York City but there's more to the place than just a date. The former Amazing Spider-Man star is taking the time off the lights of the silver screen to the lights of Broadway as she takes on the role of Kit Kat Club singer Sally Bowles in the Broadway production of Cabaret. This serves as her Broadway debut. She replaced Michelle Williams who opened the show last spring.
She is not alone in the production as she will be joined by Alan Cumming who took a Tony award in the play for the role of the Emcee.
With her performance came positive reviews from critics and audiences. Hollywood Reporter reviewed Stone's take on Sally's character as good though there have been criticisms on how the orchestra had drowned her vocals out on certain numbers such as "Maybe This Time" and "Cabaret". However, she brushes this off with equal energy and emotion to her other numbers such as "Perfectly Marvelous", "Don't Tell Mama" and "Mein Herr" where she sports a leather coat and a commandant's cap over a lacy bustier while busting out a series of dance moves. It has also been noted that despite the "lack of vocal assurance," Stone's piece doesn't affect her for giving an "affecting performance". This is further supported by Variety's comment, "While Stone is even less of a singer than Williams, she acts her way out of every tight spot."
Stone, however, will be absent from the stage light from January 10 to its matinee performance the day after to attend the Golden Globe Awards. She is nominated for the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture award for her role in the dark comedy film Birdman.
