'The Hobbit' Wins Christmas Weekend Box Office Earning Over $50 Million Beating 'Unbroken' & 'Into the Woods'
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies won the holiday weekend bringing in $54.5 million for the four-day weekend. The popular Peter Jackson movie has held the No. 1 for the second week in a row at theaters across the U.S. The movie stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ken Stott and James Nesbitt. It also features Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving and Orlando Bloom. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies has made almost $170 million domestically.
Coming in at No. 2 was the Angelina Jolie-directed The war film Unbroken, which is directed by Angelina Jolie surprised many by coming in at No. 2 this weekend bringing in $47.3 million gross.
No. 3 was the Disney film Into the Woods starring Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick. They were just behind with $46.1 million.
The top five was rounded out with Ben Stiller's Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb sequel which brought in $27.9 million and the Annie remake, starring Quvenzhane Wallis, Jamie Foxx, and Cameron Diaz that brought in $21.2 million respectively.

The first 'Hobbit' movie An Unexpected Journey (2012), grossed a staggering $1 billion worldwide. The sequel The Desolation of Smaug (2013) was a bit less successful, bringing in $953 million worldwide.
