Spider-Man 3 News and Updates: Fans reached more than 10,000 signatures to keep Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man
One of the major consequences of the hacking done to Sony entertainment's website is the future of the Spider-Man franchise. It would seem that the plan for the next installment is in complete disarray and Sony is planning to strike a deal with Marvel Studios to continue with the sequel. This is somehow a bid to make people love the Spider Man movie brand after it was burned by Marc Webb in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
If plans pushed through, Marvel would want a different Peter Parker aka Spider-Man to play the iconic hero. Marvel wanted to scrap Andrew Garfield as Spidey if he will make an appearance in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War movie. The hard part is, Marvel wants Sony to brand the Marc Webb Spider-Man books as non-canonical.
Following this news, fans of the British actor had petitioned in Change.org to keep him as Spider-Man. Fans wouldn't allow Marvel to fire Garfield and would want him to play the role for future Spider-Man movies. The description states that the character has been handled "incorrectly by the greedy idiots at Sony," and that it would be a shame to replace him after two movies, especially since the actor has expressed interest in starring in an Avengers movie in the past.
As of this writing, over 21,932 supporters have signed to keep Garfield which is more than the required of 10,000. Clearly fans wants Garfield to stay with the role.
Garfield's take on the role had been praised by critics and the box-office returns were impressive too. But, if Marvel will have their way, they would want another actor to play Spidey.
