Into the Woods’ star Anna Kendrick shares her “very, very legitimate corset” and other anecdotes with Jon Stewart in The Daily Show
"I can't sing Sondheim in a corset, running up and down real steps," Anna Kendrick shares with Jon Stewart and his Wednesday audience at The Daily Show when she dropped by in her blue dress to promote Into the Woods which will begin showing in theaters on Christmas Day.
In the Rob Marshall film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's award-winning Broadway musical of the same name, the 29-year-old actress plays Cinderella. During filming, she recalls an instance when Chris Pine, who plays her Prince, made her laugh so hard she can't sing, forcing a break and another take. She said Pine and the "very, very legitimate corset" she was wearing made her feel "temporarily asthmatic." But she adds: "Chris doing a funny Southern accent is not an acceptable excuse for holding up the shoot."
Aside from her upcoming movie, Kendrik also shared a few other personal tidbits, including the fact that she still doesn't know much about cooking ("I'm nervous about burning the house down, but I want to learn," she said) and her choice of songs during her early years ("I wasn't performing Hamlet in the bathroom mirror. It was more TLC in the bathroom mirror," she revealed).
Kendrick has been busy promoting Into the Woods. Early that Wednesday, she was at the Apple Store Soho. The night before, she made an appearance at the Late Show with David Lettermen where she got to tell the 67-year-old host to his face that the cat toy for children he earlier featured may actually be something else. Said she: "Can I say, though, that cat toy ... that is a fur-covered dildo, no? There was a factory. They were putting those out. They said, 'Put a mitten on it and sell it to children.' It's for kids now."
Following Into the Woods, Kendrick's next movie will be Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel to the 2012 hit comedy musical about the Barden Bellas, Barden University's all-female a cappella group, in their quest to win a national a capella competition. The sequel will have Kendrick reprising her role as Becca Mitchell. Now already in post-production, Pitch Perfect 2, which was made under the direction of Elizabeth Banks, will be seen in theaters on May 15, 2015.
