Sarah Hyland Files Restraining Order, Claims Abuse From Ex-Boyfriend
Last month, the Modern Family star was issued a temporary restraining order after claiming her ex-boyfriend of five years had abusive tendencies. Now, the Los Angeles Superior Court has mandated a more permanent stance.
TMZ reported Hyland was granted all the protections she requested, according to an Oct. 6 report by Us Weekly. This means Prokop must stay 100 yards from her, her house and her dog, he must not go near her workplace, not own a gun and not attack or threaten her or her dog in any way.
Sarah Hyland's Red Carpet Meltdown At This Year's Emmys
Hyland and Prokop were together for five years, after initially meeting at an audition for High School Musical 3. Throughout their relationship, the 23-year-old actress claimed Prokop was abusive.
Us Weekly obtained Hyland's filed court documents, which read a few of Prokop's offenses. Hyland claimed he verbally abused her -- one time even choking her with a "grip so tight that [she] could not breathe or speak."
After calling off the relationship, court documents say he "relentlessly bombarded [her] with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voicemails including his own suicide threats." He also threatened to burn her house down and harm her dog.
The documents noted Prokop had spent some time in rehab post-relationship, and that the facility leader advised Hyland to obtain a restraining order after evaluating her ex's mental state.
Hyland's lawyer, Lee A. Sherman of CTSC Law, told Us Weekly in a statement that the "documents filed speak for themselves."
