Joan Rivers' ENT Denies Unauthorized Biopsy And Procedure Room Selfie
Dr. Gwen Korovin was subpoenaed when John Ritter's family sued a hospital and several doctors over his 2003 death. However, according to a source, Dr. Korovin never treated the actor, who died of an aortic dissection.
"She, or people close to her, refused to accept service of the subpoena," a source told InTouch Weekly on Sept. 24. "She claimed she never treated Ritter. The lawyers dropped it and never sent another subpoena."
Melissa Rivers Gives Kathy Griffin Her Blessing To Take Mom's Spot On Fashion Police
Rivers underwent a routine procedure at Yorkville Endoscopy on her vocal cords, but instead of waking up from the procedure as expected, the comedian went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to the Mount Sinai Hospital. On Sept. 4, after spending a week in a medically-induced coma, the Fashion Police co-host passed away.
Medical investigators have alleged Dr. Korovin performed an unauthorized throat biopsy when she thought she saw something on Rivers' vocal cords. In addition, reports claim the ENT took a procedure room selfie with Rivers in the background. This is a major violation of privacy.
Despite allegations, Dr. Korovin vehemently denies all claims. The doctor's attorney released a statement last week saying she "will [not] have any public comment on recent press reports regarding her practice."
Still, workers at Yorkville Endoscopy have insisted Dr. Korovin performed the unauthorized biopsy, as well as the procedure room selfie.
