Amber Portwood Custody Agreement: Is 'Teen Mom' Filing For Joint Custody With Gary Shirley?
Amber Portwood is sober, but is she prepared to have joint custody of her 5-year-old daughter, Leah?
Although Portwood has been clean since entering prison in June 2012, the former Teen Mom isn't quite ready to change the custody agreement between herself and Leah's father, Gary Shirley.
"For now, everything is working, so I’m not messing with it," Portwood told OK! Magazine, via an Aug. 25 report by Wetpaint Entertainment. "I can call Gary and say, 'Hey, I want to pick up Leah.' It’s freer [than a legal agreement] — and I get to see her more."
Since Portwood entered into a 5-year prison sentence (she was granted an early release in Nov. 2013), Shirley has maintained full custody of Leah. Luckily for Portwood, he's been more than willing to work with her and ensure she plays a huge part in her daughter's life -- especially since she's been doing so well in the last several months since her release.
Still, Shirley isn't ready to make any legal changes to their custody agreement.
In Jan. 2014, Shirley told OK! Magazine, “I don’t want to screw myself over [with joint custody] and then have to fight for Leah."
While their custody agreement will remain the same, at least for now, Portwood said she and Shirley are currently doing a great job co-parenting Leah.
"It’s good; not like it was, with screaming and cussing," Portwood explained. "We have difficult times, but we get over it, and we don’t do it in front of Leah. It’s not the greatest, because he’s still my ex — but it’s not drama all the time."
