Doctors Discover Baby Skeleton Inside Woman's Body
Ever hear of a mother who has a hard time letting their kid go? Well just wait until you hear this...
One woman recently discovered the 38-year-old remains of a pregnancy gone wrong inside her body.
When a 62-year-old woman from central India, whose identity is uncertain since publications are reporting contradictory names, told her doctor she was experiencing intense stomach pains, he suggested immediate surgery. What Dr. Mohammad Yunus Shah and his team did not expect to find was the skeleton of an unborn baby. This is the baby the woman lost from an ectopic pregnancy 38 years ago, Life and Style reported on Aug. 22.
According to Mayo Clinic, an ectopic pregnancy is when the fertilized egg, which is supposed to attach itself to the lining of the uterus, instead attaches outside of it, disrupting a normal pregnancy.
The woman had her ectopic pregnancy in 1978 when she was just 24-years-old, Life and Style reported.
At first doctors feared the lump on her lower right side was cancer, but it turned out the woman knew she never removed the skeleton, the Daily Mail reported on Aug. 20.
"She apparently knew that the baby had died and that she would need an operation, and we gathered that she got scared at the prospect of surgery and so went away to her village without undergoing the operation," Dr. Shah told the Daily Mail.
He added that this could go down on record as the longest ectopic pregnancy ever.
The matured skeleton was discovered in a sac, lodged between the uterus, the intestines and bladder, the Daily Mail reported.
