Todd Bridges has apologized for slamming Robin Williams' decision to take his own life.

Following the tragic news of Williams' suicide, Bridges took to Twitter, where he called the act "selfish." Now, he's returned to Twitter to offer an apology for his harsh criticism.

"I would like to apologize for the terrible timing of me comments that I made in reference to the untimely death of Robin Williams," Bridges wrote to fans, according to an Aug. 12 report by Life & Style. "My best friend committed suicide a few months ago, and I was devastated to discover that he did not solicit my help. I am sure that my attitude toward Williams's death was a delayed reaction of my best friend's death."

On Aug. 11, Williams was found dead after a reported struggle with addiction and depression. On Aug. 12, a coroner determined the death to be suicide, revealing Williams hanged himself with a belt after first attempting to slit his wrist.

A short time after the news broke, the Different Strokes actor released his first tweet in regard to the sad loss -- and was immediately bombarded by backlash from fans.

In the tweet, which has since been deleted, Bridges had written, "It is a very selfish act, you're not thinking about your family your friends or your fans."

Williams was found dead at his Northern California home on Monday afternoon by his assistant. According to reports, Williams could have died at any time between 10:30 p.m. on Sunday evening and noon on Monday.
