Kate Gosselin Reality TV 2014: Mother Of Eight Returned To Television For The Money
Kate Gosselin has returned to reality TV to support her eight children.
Although there have been rumors that Gosselin returned to television in an effort to maintain her fame, she claims she was only doing what was best for her kids.
"Hear me very clearly," Gosselin told E! News. "If there was another way to singly support eight children, you would not know this name and I would be on an island, and so would they. You would never hear from us again."
Gosselin, a registered nurse, married her now ex-husband, Jon Gosselin, on June 12, 1999, and on Oct. 8, 2000, she gave birth to twin girls, Cara and Madelyn. Three years later, after undergoing fertility treatments, Gosselin became pregnant for a second time, but instead of two babies, she was expecting six. On May 10, 2004, Gosselin gave birth to sextuplets, sons Aaden, Collin and Joel, and daughters, Leah, Alexis and Hannah.
Following the birth of her sextuplets, Gosselin was featured on NBC's Home Delivery. One year later, the family was featured on Discovery Health's Surviving Sextuplets and Twins, and a year after that, they appeared on a follow-up special. Because of the show's high ratings, the network awarded Gosselin and family with their own series, Jon & Kate Plus 8, which premiered in April 2007. In 2010, Gosselin, who had split from husband Jon in 2009, moved on to her own series, Kate Plus 8, which ended in 2011. Then, this week, Gosselin and family returned to reality TV in two one-hour TLC specials, titled, Kate Plus Eight: Sextuplets Turn 10.
Although reality TV may not have been her career of choice, Gosselin admitted that it is a pretty great way to get paid.
"Having said that, this is a pretty fantastic way to feed my children, keep them in an amazing house, at an amazing school, and make memories together," she continued. "That's just my life and cameras are there. So I understand this situation because I landed on TV somehow. This is just part of that. I look at it as work and the kids are with me, they run in and out of the frame, and we go to cool places sometimes."
