Maci Bookout IRS Debt: 'Teen Mom' Owes Government Nearly $80,000
Maci Bookout reportedly just received a major bill from the IRS.
The Teen Mom star and mother of 5-year-old Bentley Edwards has long been known as one of the more mature young mothers in reality TV, but judging by a recently released court document, which claims she owes the government nearly $80,000, that may not be the case.
"She’s in denial,” a source told In Touch Weekly of Bookout's dire financial situation. “She needs to find a way to pay back this money. She’s gotten herself into a lot of trouble.”
For years, Bookout had a steady job with MTV, working as one of four stars on Teen Mom. However, when the show ended, Bookout's career slowed down, and although she was hired by MTV to host several after shows for Teen Mom 2 and Teen Mom 3, she was considered to be an independent contractor, meaning taxes were not deducted from her MTV paychecks.
When Bookout finally got her tax bill for the years she worked independently, she was unable to pay them. Now, Bookout has been issued a tax lien on "all property and rights to property," which states that she owes the IRS a total of $78,308.63 dating back to 2011.
“She's been telling people that she’s working on paying it back, but very little progress has been made,” another source explained.
According to the source, Bookout is currently unemployed and living off income she makes by promoting companies on Twitter.
