Samantha Harris Breast Cancer Diagnosis: Host Undergoes Double Mastectomy
Samantha Harris has reportedly undergone a double mastectomy following a scary breast cancer diagnosis last month.
In a new WhoSay post, the Entertainment Tonight host shared a photo of her pre-surgery self with fans, and announced that she had made it through the surgery.
"Made it thru grueling double mastectomy #surgery. Thanks to all of my amazing surgical team," Harris wrote on May 20, along with a photo of herself sporting a doctor-drawn diagram on her chest. "Like my "art" b4 heading in?!"
On April 9, Harris first revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. During an interview with ET's Brooke Anderson, Harris opened up about how she came to the realization that she was suffering from cancer as she laid on a doctor's table with several surgeons drawing diagrams on her body.
At the time, Harris, assumed there was nothing to worry about, had arrived to the doctor alone, but once she came to the realization that she would soon be fighting cancer, her husband, Michael Hess, and two children, Josselyn Sydney and Hillary Madison, were all she could think about. In fact, her children played a major role in her taking control of the situation and staying focused on getting better.
"No matter how positive of a diagnosis as I have, it doesn't keep the demons of fear from taking over your mind and your thought process and thinking about the girls and thinking about [how] my dad wasn't able to walk me down the aisle," she told Us Weekly at the time of her diagnosis. "I will be here to plan my daughters weddings and they better like the dress I pick."
Along with Harris' WhoSay post, she shared a link to a Twitter page for Gotta Make Lemonade, which was founded by Harris and her husband to inspire positivity in the face of adversity. The foundation's Twitter slogan reads, "When life deals you lemons, you #GottaMakeLemonade."
