Zac Efron Is Committed To His Sobriety
Zac Efron is staying sober in 2014.
After going to rehab in the spring of 2013, Efron has dealt with his fair share of temptation, but he's staying strong and fighting off his demons by focusing on his career and his health.
''He cut most everyone out of his life who were part of the party scene,'' a source told PEOPLE Magazine, with a second adding, ''[He] is totally committed to being sober now.''
Being in the entertainment industry, Efron ''has temptations'', but has chosen to distance himself from the negative influence in his life and instead spend his time reading scripts, working out, and going to 12-step meetings.
''I'm so happy. I feel like I'm in a great place and I'm glad that I'm really here to share this moment with everybody and be present for all of it," he told PEOPLE on Jan. 21. ''It was an interesting year. I learned so many things. So much. The best part of it was being able to reflect upon that experience and realize how much I have learned about myself and the kind of man I want to be."
According to a Sept. 2013 report by TMZ, reports had claimed Efron's rehab stint was for treatment for an addiction to alcohol, but what he was really battling was cocaine. Their source alleged Efron's issues with cocaine spiraled out of control on the set of his new film, Neighbors, which was shot in April 2013.
"It was common knowledge he was struggling with cocaine," their source stated, adding that Efron missed several days due to the addiction.
The source also claimed Efron dabbled with Molly, a pure form of Ecstasy, which is popular in clubs and at raves.
During his March 8 visit to Austin's SXSW, where he promoted Neighbors, Efon told the audience, "I've been blessed to have the opportunities I've had. It couldn't have happened better. I'm stoked."
And while he promised to "take it back to college" at the film's fraternity-themed after party, he celebrated quietly with the crowd and named the nonalcoholic beverage O'Doul's as his favorite beer.
