Britney Spears Works Out In A Sauna Suit: What Is It?

Britney Spears was recently seen wearing a sauna suit.

While out in Los Angeles this week, Spears wore a long-sleeved, silver waterproof suit which is said to aid in weight loss.

"The suit just does more of the same thing you would get without it—only much more so," Shape House owner Sophie Chiche told E! News on March 13. It accelerates "super profuse sweating" and "as much as three times [as much as without the suit], which goes directly to [a] more efficient detox."

Sauna suits are made with waterproof fabric designed to make the user sweat profusely. Although early sweat suits were made with rubber or rubberized cloth, they are now typically made with PVC or coated nylon cloth.

Because the suits cause sweating, users are typically left dehydrated which makes them somewhat dangerous to wear. Unless the user is staying very hydrated with plenty of water, they are risking heat stroke -- especially when paired with exercise.

"The hyper sweatsuit retains the heat closer to your body, and because of the trapped moisture everything feels more steamy," added Chiche. "It's like cooking in your own juices."

Another use for a sauna suit is to treat psoriasis. Sufferers of the condition use the suits to trap in the ointments they need to reduce their symptoms, which include itchiness and discomfort.

In addition to her normal workout routine, and the sauna suit, Spears also gets exercise at home where she is busy with her two young sons, Sean, 8, and Jayden, 7.
