George Lopez Gives Up Alcohol Following Arrest
George Lopez has given up alcohol.
After a drunken arrest last month, the comedian has revealed his decision to get sober.
In an interview on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Lopez opened up about his arrest and revealed that he has quit alcohol completely.
"Well, Ellen, recently I lifted myself off the casino floor in Canada," Lopez admitted to Ellen Degeneres during a March 13 taping of her daytime talk show. "I was on my way to my room -- I just missed it by 35 floors...Guys were betting on whether I would get up...And then one person came by and said, 'I didn't know the Dog Whisperer [Cesar Millan] drank that much.'"
On Feb. 27, Lopez was arrested at a bar located in the Caesars Windsor, and while joked about the arrest after the news went public, he has since taken a more serious step to ensure that he will not be a repeat offender.
"Since then I have not had a drop of alcohol," he told DeGeneres. "That was a nice going-away party for that guy, and then I'm the new George now sitting here in front of you."
And when Degeneres added that she was glad he was taking a break, Lopez clarified, "No, I'm stopping."
Because of his ongoing health problems, Lopez's wild night of drinking sparked concern in his fans. Lopez suffers from a genetic condition which causes his kidneys to deteriorate and in 2005, Lopez's then-wife, Ann, donated one of her kidneys to him.
