Demi Lovato Reportedly Urged Selena Gomez To Go To Rehab
Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez have been friends for years. So, when Gomez began struggling with an alleged addiction to Ambien, marijuana, and alcohol, Lovato stepped in, urging her to go to rehab.
"Demi helped her find the strength to do it," an insider told In Touch Weekly. "Demi told her it's OK to be honest about having a problem. They've really bonded over their issues."
On Feb. 5, reports surfaced which claimed that Gomez had secretly gone to rehab at Arizona's Dawn at the Meadows in January. At the time, her rep insisted the visit wasn't related to any sort of substance abuse issue, but other outlets, including TMZ, stated otherwise.
"Selena went for a combination of problems, including alcohol, pot and prescription Ambien," TMZ reported on Feb 5.
As the rumors swirled, Lovato told fans on Twitter, "Weakness is living in denial. Only the strongest people ask for help." The next day, Lovato appeared on E! News where she spoke of Gomez.
"Selena is, I've known her for 14 years and we've been best friends," Lovato explained. "That's all of her business, and I just want to let her do her thing. And yeah, she's amazing. I love her."
On February 11 Gomez addressed her fans on Instargram, thanking them for supporting her. "I've done everything I could to the best of my ability," she wrote. "Thank you for the unconditional love and cyber hugs. You inspire me." Along with the post was a photo of Gomez holding a glass of wine.
