Chad Michael Murray Lost 25 Pounds For New Role As A Heroin Addict
Chad Michael Murray recently dropped 25 pounds for a film role, and in a new interview with Us Weekly, he dished on the dramatic transformation for his upcoming flick, Other People's Children.
"I played a homeless heroin addict," Murray said of the role. "I lost 25 pounds for it, and I was really in a dark place for about a month. It was taking your work home with you. It's heavy."
As for how Murray lost the weight, he revealed that he stuck to a healthy, plant-based diet, and also ate a select few animal products. This, along with a strict exercise plan lead to the pounds dropping off.
"I wanted to do it organically in a healthy way, I really did. I didn't want to just cut down to water and crackers," he explained. "Every day I didn't consume anything that wasn't from God's green earth. Pretty much oatmeal, egg whites, salads, chicken, tuna -- that's pretty much it. I'd have some oatmeal and do an hour and a half of circuit training and weights," shared Murray. "Come home and have a really healthy lunch like egg whites and a banana. Continue on, have some coffee, and do a five-mile jog at night."
Murray said that he was consuming about 1,400 to 1,600 calories per day but burning around 3,000 per day with his training program. Within three weeks, he claimed, he was down to his goal weight, and rewarded by his Other People's Children crew with Murray's favorite snack -- wings.
"They gave them to me [when we] wrapped," he revealed. "Deep-fried, hot sauce, fantastic, waiting for me."
Now that production on the film has wrapped, Murray is struggling to get back to his normal size. Although losing the weight happened quickly, gaining the 25 pounds back has been more of a challenge.
"That's the hard thing. I'm struggling to put it back on," he said. "I haven't been able to train much for the past seven months because I've been working back to back."
Other People's Children is currently in post-production with no release date set.
