Selena Gomez Secretly Went To Rehab In January
Selena Gomez appears to be one of the more level-headed Hollywood starlets, but even she needs a little help now and again, and on Jan. 5, the former Disney star secretly entered rehab to get herself back on track.
"Selena voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse," a rep for the singer confirmed to Us Weekly on Feb. 5.
Radar Online was first to report that Gomez had been admitted to Dawn at The Meadows recovery facility in Wickenburg, Ariz. for a two-week stay on Jan. 5, claiming that the Come And Get It singer's drug use had become a problem.
"With fame came a partying lifestyle," said one Radar insider, who alleged Gomez had been experimenting with marijuana and prescription drugs, including Xanax and Ambien.
"Her friends and family became increasingly worried that there might be a serious problem with Selena particularly, her parents," said another source. "The partying was, at times, wild. They wanted to help her - and they very much encouraged her to go to rehab. Others very close to her also urged her to seek professional help."
Despite Radar's report, Gomez's rep insisted that substance abuse was not the reason for Gomez's stint in rehab.
One month prior to entering rehab, Gomez released a statement, announcing that she was cancelling several shows on her tour to work on herself.
"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them," Gomez said in the Dec. 19 statement. "But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be. To my fans, I sincerely apologize and I hope you guys know how much each and every one of you mean to me."
In the weeks leading up to rehab, Gomez and her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber appeared to be getting close to one another yet again. In fact, Gomez was with Bieber the day before she enterred treatment, and three days before that, the former couple were spotted together in Bieber's Calabasas neighborhood where they rode Segways with friends.
Since their Jan. 2013 breakup, the pair has been on and off, and even after Gomez went to rehab, it was reported that the two had gone away together on a camping trip in Santa Cruz.
