'Teen Mom 2' Star Leah Calvert Stays Strong For Her Daughter Ali As She Begins Using A Wheelchair
Leah Calvert hasn't had the easiest time dealing with her daughter Ali's developmental issues, but she'll never let her little one know it. Instead, the Teen Mom 2 star is staying strong and putting on a brave face.
For years, Ali has dealt with hardships, and on Teen Mom 2's upcoming fifth season, the four-year-old will be seen using a wheelchair for the first time.
"I try to deal with it the best way I can. I try to stay strong for Ali," Calvert revealed to Wetpaint Entertainment on Jan. 16. "Honestly, I don't know what I would do without her. I know I probably wouldn't be going through this, but going through this with any other child, I just couldn't [imagine]. She has the brightest personality."
Despite Ali's positivity, Calvert has her low points.
"It crushes me," Calvert admitted. "Because she doesn't understand and she's still so full of life. Especially seeing her in her wheelchair for the first time, she just felt so free and so happy."
"Moments after Ali is seen for the first time in her chair on Teen Mom 2, her mother breaks down, sadly saying, "My future with her doesn't look so damn bright."
In June of 2013, after months of assuming that Ali was heading in the right direction, and making big steps towards developing normally, Calvert and her ex-husband, Corey Simms, received news that she was actually progressing in the wrong direction, and would likely be in a wheelchair for the majority of her life.
Also staying strong for Ali is her twin sister Aleeah.
"Aleeah is very protective," Calvert said. "If her sister gets bumped and falls, she'll be screaming at that person, 'Like don't you ever touch my sister!' She knows there's something, but she doesn't understand what."
Teen Mom 2 premieres on Jan. 21 at 10 p.m.
