Former Miss Venezuela Monica Spear and ex-Husband Killer Captured Following Deadly Highway Robbery

Venezuela's police has reportedly identified the man behind the killings of former Miss Venezuela and telenovela actress Monica Spear and her ex-husband Thomas Henry Berry as 26-year-old Adolfo David Rico Agreda, a.k.a. "El Adolfito," according to Venezuela's news website Ultimas Noticias.

Rico is reportedly the man who founded the gang known as "Los Rapiditos" (the Quick) which used to operate in the highway Valencia-Puerto Cabello. According to the publication, Rico was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, one day after the killings of Spear and Berry.

Spear and her ex-husband were killed after an attempted robbery on Monday, Jan. 6, according to police, Telemundo reported.

The 29-year-old star was travelling with Berry and her 5-year-old daughter on the Puerto Cabello-Valencia highway in Venezuela when their car broke down at around 10 p.m..

Police reports confirmed that Spear and her British husband, were shot and killed while the couple's daughter suffered an injury of a bullet in her leg. Authorities stated that the young girl is now in a stable condition.

According to  reports, police made five arrests in connection to the highway robbery, which includes two individuals who are under 18 years of age.

A lot of Venezuelans were outraged by the killings and took to different social media sites to express their thoughts.

TV personality Camila Canabal expressed her thoughts in a tweet: "Sadness, anger, indignation, impotence, shame and pain, pain, pain, dammit!!!

"Monica and Thomas are the face of thousands of men and woman whose children have been left without parents because of the violence of Venezuela," she added.

According to USA Today, this shooting incident is common in Venezuela along with kidnapping. In fact, the country has one of the world's highest murder rates, ranking 5th worldwide, according to the United Nations.

Leonaldo Lopez, one of the opposition leaders, blamed the death of Spears and her ex-husband on the government. He took to Twitter to express his thoughts: "This government is an accomplice of armed groups, judicial corruption, arms trafficking."

Delcy Rodriguez , minister of Venezuela's Communications and ­Information office, swore to bring the killers to justice, adding: "The full weight of the law will be applied here."
