Selena Gomez Reportedly Has Lupus
When Selena Gomez announced that she was cancelling the Asian and Australian leg of her tour for some "me" time on December 19, 2013, there were rumors that the singer was suffering from a breakdown. However, according to a report, the star is reportedly suffering from Lupus.
Gomez was diagnosed with Lupus a couple of years ago and that recently she was suffering "flares" causing facial swelling, extreme fatigue, headaches and joint paint, a source close to the singer told Popdust.
"Selena has been going full throttle the past few years and her Lupus is really catching up with her right now," the source told Popdust. "She knows that she needs to take some time to address the disease and look after herself better if she wants to live a full and healthy life."
Lupus is an auto-immune disease that attacks the body's organs. According to Medical News Today, more serious cases of lupus "can lead to problems with kidneys, the heart, the lungs, blood, or the nervous system."
The Come and Get It singer also released a statement at the time when she announced the cancellation of the rest of the tour. She said: "My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them."
"But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be."
A source also confirmed to E! News that Justin Bieber's ex is not having a breakdown saying, "She is not having a breakdown. She wants to be the healthiest that she can be and this means taking a little break. But she is fine. She is OK."
