Overweight Barbie Doll Stirs Controversy on Facebook, But Most Supporters Dislike 'Double Chin' [PHOTO]
A "plus-size" Barbie doll stirred controversy on the web after it caught the attention of tens of thousands of readers and while it gained many supporters the majority of them disliked the "double chin" of the doll.
"The double chin is a little ridiculous, but I'm all for it," said one Facebook user.
A Facebook page called Plus-Size Modeling posted the image of the overweight Barbie doll and asked whether toy companies should venture into making the dolls. Since the image was posted on Dec. 18, 2013 it has received more than 38,000 likes and 2,000 comments.
"Portraying Barbie as a realistic Women with real curves is a very good idea and would send the right message to young girls about self esteem," said Facebook user Madison Jaquez.
Sure but Barbie doesn't need a double chin. You can be 'plus size' w/o the double chin. They could make a 'thick' Barbie," Facebook user Vanessa McNeil commented.
"Okay i honestly don't think how a barbie looks effects a child's self esteem. When i was little i didn't wanna look like barbie wt*? Lol. I didn't think about my looks at all i just wanted to play..." commented user Victoria Gallegos.
Despite stirring a current debate, the overweight Barbie doll has actually been online since 2011. The image originally was part of a Photoshop contest hosted by Worth1000.com called "Feeding Times" in which artists were challenged to modify pictures of typically skinny celebrities to make them look overweight.
