Katy Perry on Motherhood: 'I'm Definitely Not There Yet'
Katy Perry is not quite yet ready to become a mother just yet.
The PRISM songstress is the January cover of Marie Claire and opened up about her maternal side. The 29-year-old said that she was not quite yet ready to become more than just a pop superstar.
"I'm definitely not there yet, and I can't plan that far in advance," she told January's Marie Claire"When I decide to have a family, I'll just want to be Mom for a little bit."
Perry is currently involved with fellow pop star, John Mayer. She said that he made the ideal partner. She was a fan of his for many years before the two became romantically involved in 2012. She was just recently divorced from comic Russell Brand. Perry said that her husband of one year was eager to start a family but she was not ready.
"I think it was a way of control. I think it was part of, 'If I have a kid, then I would have to sacrifice - I'd have to be home more.' I really wanted to, but I knew I wasn't ready for it," she said.
Perry's divorce from Brand is one of the reasons why she briefly split from Mayer earlier this year. Perry said she still needed time to digest the end of her marriage.
"I took a break from my boyfriend, not one that I wanted," she said. "It was like a splash of cold water to search inward on what was going on with me. That is what led me to this new awakening, this realizing, 'If I don't do some self-love, I'm not going to be able to keep the love that I want.' "
