Celebrity Trainer Tracy Anderson Compares Juice Cleanses to Twinkies
Tracy Anderson claimed that juice cleanses 'the worst thing that ever became commercialized.'
Anderson is a celebrity trainer who is best known for helping stars get into shape. One of her closest friend is Gwyneth Paltrow. In a recent interview with Refinery29, Anderson slammed the product.
"If you're going to drink a non-organic green juice, you might as well eat a Twinkie. Or a half a Twinkie, at least," she said. "There's like 80 calories in it, there's a bunch of chemicals in it, what's the point? The only benefit [to juice] is that it's pre-digested and the Twinkie's not."
The fitness guru said that juice cleanses are dangerous for the health of people.
'They crash people's metabolic rate,' she argued. 'Now, the FDA says they have to be pasteurized. So, you're drinking, basically, water that's going to give you Type 2 diabetes, potentially.'
The mother-of- two also took issue with raw vegan diet. 'You know, I was raw for an entire year - totally raw,' she said. 'I believed in it so much. I was like, "This is amazing. This is the key." I wouldn't have my daughter [if I were still raw]. I lost my period for seven months because I went raw.'
Anderson also has something to say about extremists dieters. "People who are raw vegans age faster than people who aren't... There are different philosophies. People who are extremists are dangerous - if you're an extremist, and it works for you, fine. (But) trying to influence other people using vanity to become extreme for no reason is cultish. They're so passionate or proud of themselves because they cut out dairy and meat and all of these things. And, they juice cleanse and they're on some spiritual high level of living," she said.
