'Days Of Our Lives' News: Freddie Smith Speaks Out About the Chandler Massey/Guy Wilson Recast
Days of Our Lives star Freddie Smith has shared his thoughts about the recasting of Will Horton and what it will mean for the popular pairing of Wilson.
Smith, who plays the character of Sonny, opened up to Soap Opera Network in an interview published on Nov. 14. Smith discussed Guy Wilson assuming the role of Will from Chandler Massey who last taped scenes over the summer. Smith acknowledged that he was the middle man repeatedly being asked about the change in actors. His character Sonny is star crossed lovers with fan favorite Will.
"But basically, what's most important is that the storyline continues on, because it's a wonderful story. I've had so much positive feedback, and it's really been life changing for some people," Smith said.
Smith was happy that the gay pairing was able to connect with viewers. He knew that it had made a difference in many lives.
"It's really cool. It's helped people come out of the closet and tell their parents, and it's great. I miss Chandler. We started this journey together. But I also love working with Guy. He's an incredible person," he said.
Smith shared that he spent some time getting to know his new co-star. The two actors wanted to get a feel for the other before bringing their interpretation of Wilson on screen.
"We spent a week together, him and I, hanging out every day, going to lunch, because we really wanted to just cram in two years of 'let's get to know each other,'" he said. "So we told stories and talked and talked and hung out, and we're now good friends."
