Chris Brown Released from Jail After Assault Charge Reduced to Misdemeanor

Chris Brown was released from jail after his assault charges were reduced, PEOPLE reported Monday.

The 24-year-old Brown appeared before a Washington, D.C. judge. He and his bodyguard Christopher Hollosy had spent the past 36 hours in jail following an altercation over the weekend. round 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 27 in Washington, D.C. Allegedly, Brown was outside the W Hotel on K Street and was about to take a picture with two female fans. It was then that two men attempted to photo bomb and Brown responded with a punch to the face to one of the men.

Brown and Hollosy were both initially charged with felony assault but those charges were reduced to a misdemeanor. They were both released without bail. Brown was met outside the courtroom by an overflow of supporters who held signs such as "Leave Chris Alone" and "Free Chris Brown".

Brown's attorney asserted the innocence of the Love More singer. He made statements, according to CNN, to the press pool outside the courtroom.

"Christopher Brown committed no crime," Danny Onorato said. "We understand that his security acted to protect Mr. Brown and his property, as he is authorized to do under D.C. law. We are confident that Mr. Brown will be exonerated of any wrongdoing."
