'General Hospital' News: Anthony Geary ‘Livid’ After Being Asked To Take 750K Paycut?
Anthony Geary is 'livid' after being told to take a substantial pay cut from General Hospital, Radar Online reported Tuesday.
The current issue of Globe cited sources who declare that the 66-year-old actor was told that his $1.5 million salary can no longer be maintained in today's climate. Ratings have gone down across the board and budgets have been slashed. Many actors have had to take less than what they previously made in their heyday but Geary did not feel he should be one of the many. He does not want to take a $750K pay cut.
"Tony feels he's proven his worth to the show and the network," a friend of his allegedly told the publication.
Geary has played the iconic Luke Spencer since the 1970's. He apparently felt that gave him enough standing to avoid making less money.
"Tony helped propel General Hospital into top soap opera status... (his) pride wouldn't accept getting his pay sliced. Tony's serious about walking. He's worked hard and isn't hurting for money," the source said.
If an agreement cannot be reached, the character of Luke will be killed off.
"This is heading toward a standoff and the result will depend on who blinks first. Tony believes he's in the driver's seat," a source said.
