The 26-year-old former Gossip Girl actress will star with Ellen Burstyn in the Lee Toland Krieger directed romantic drama. The film will be about a 29-year-old woman who stops aging after a tragic accident. She continues to live her life throughout the 20th century without telling anyone her secret, but meets a man who changes the course of her life.
"They're extraordinarily talented and perfect for telling the beautiful and timeless tale of The Age Of Adaline," Lakeshore CEO Tom Rosenberg said of Lively and Burstyn.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger also addressed why the project had taken so long to come together. Heigl was formerly set to play the lead. However, there were rumors that her reported diva behavior and that is a reason why she was no longer affiliated with the project. The powers that be did not make mention of any personal conflict with Heigl and pledged to deliver a great film.
