'General Hospital' Star Anthony Geary on Life, Death and Luke and Laura
Anthony Geary has shared what is next for his iconic character, Luke Spencer, in an interview with TV Guide that was published Wednesday.
Geary has played the anti hero since the 1970's on General Hospital. He has remained one of the show's most popular characters. These days, Luke's life has been endangered by a toxic. The publication asked the seven time Emmy award winner how he was able to make viewers believe that his character could truly be killed off.
"In the soap business, everyone is expendable and you never take anything for granted. That said, I'm not sure the audience does buy this. When that ex-KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko was poisoned with polonium a few years back - they think by Putin - he was covered in gruesome sores. It's a hellish death. I really wanted to go there but they wouldn't let me," he said.
In addition to his beloved character, Geary is also one half of the fabled Luke and Laura. The supercouple's 1981 wedding remains the largest audience ever for a daytime serial. Since then, the couple has separated. Geary provided an update on what fans can expect. He did not forsee a happily ever after since that is not what soap operas are about.
"The idea of them snuggled in a little house with children in Port Charles living an idealistic life together was out of the question," he said.
