WWE wrestler Darren Young had a mask when he entered the WWE ring. Underneath the mask was a secret- he is gay.  He revealed the reasons why he kept his sexuality a secret, PEOPLE reported.

"I was terrified of losing friends, losing my job, just everything," he told PEOPLE in its latest issue. "I had no idea what would happen if I came out."

However, on August 14, all his fears were put to rest after he announced about his sexual orientation to a reporter at Los Angeles International Airport. He became the first openly gay WWE star.

"There came a point in my life where I just wasn't happy living a double life," Young said. "It was spur of the moment, and I said what I said and I was confident. But when I left, I said to myself, 'What the hell did I just do?' "

Even though he was terrified about how his fans and the organization's management as well as his colleagues in the ring would react to his announcement, it seemed that everyone accepted him with open arms.

"They all embraced me, and that was just shocking to me. I truly love them," shared Young. "It was such a relief. I'm not hiding anymore and I'm living the dream."
