Lady Gaga: 'Applause' Singer Will Not Judge Miley Cyrus 2013 MTV VMA Performance
Lady Gaga has weighed in on the controversial MTV VMA performance of Miley Cyrus and will not judge her fellow pop star, The Huffington Post reported September 1.
Cyrus drew controversy and criticism for her antics at the Aug. 25 VMA's. She gyrated against the married Robin Thicke while they performed a duet of his summer anthem Blurred Lines. She twerked and stuck a toy finger in between her legs. There was no shortage of ridicule for her antics which also included wearing a flesh wearing outfit and sticking out her tongue.
The Applause singer told The Sun that she would not become another person to cast aspersions on the 20 year old who rose to fame as Hannah Montana.
"I don't like to pass judgment on Miley Cyrus. Generally, people need to lighten up about pop music -- it's about entertainment," Gaga said. "It is here to make you smile and make you happy. Especially in America, there is an excessive dragging of female artists, and I don't want to contribute to that."
The 27-year-old did allow that she could understand why the Cyrus and Thicke performance generated so much derision.
"[It was] "polarizing" -- "but that's it," Gaga said.
