Beyoncé Vogue Cover Outsells Michelle Obama
Beyoncé is very good for the newsstands while some of her counterparts do not pack the same sales punch, Women's Wear Daily reported Monday.
The Run The World singer was featured as the March cover for Vogue. The issue sold 355,397, outselling all other covers. The 31-year-old also bested First Lady Michelle Obama. Mrs. Obama's April cover for Vogue sold 293,798. The R&B superstar was not the only one who brought fans to the newsstands. Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus proved to be draws for the magazines they appeared on.
Those who are no longer living also proved to be a hit with customers. Princess Diana, Ronald Reagan and Audrey Hepburn proved to be popular. Vanity Fair's best selling cover this year featured Hepburn in her youth. Jay Fielden, editor in chief of Town and Country, explained the lore of those who have died.
"We love dead people," Fielden said. "It's part of all of our lives, so why should magazines be lassoed to some sort of rule that doesn't apply to other parts of our lives? What genre of books is most popular? Biographies. And those are often about dead people."
The worst sellers on the newsstands this year proved to be Taylor Swift, Rachel Bilson, Selena Gomez and Nicki Minaj.
