B. Scott Files Multi-Million Suit Against BET For Discrimination [PHOTOS]
Transgender blogger B. Scott has sued BET for discrimination based on gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation , TMZ reported Wednesday.
Scott was scheduled to be an on air personality during the June 30 Style Stage Correspondent for the 2013 BET Awards Pre-Show from the Shrine Auditorium. However, Scott took to social media to allege that the network had treatment him unfairly, forcing him to change clothes and remove his makeup. In court documents obtained by TMZ, Scott outlined what executives did to him.
Scott said that the clothes that he had on, a black tunic and pants, were approved by the powers that be. However, he was soon pulled off the air after the first segment. The court document claimed that Scott was forced to "mute the makeup, pull back his hair" and take off his heels.
Scott made the changes but was ultimately replaced by Adrienne Bailon. Scott is now asking for at least $2.5 million from the network on the grounds that he has suffered humiliation and damage to his reputation.
Scott also took to his website and explained why he chose to make this legal decision. Scott wrote that he and BET were not able to come to a resolution. Scott felt that he had no other recourse.
"While I want nothing more than to put this incident behind me and move on with my life, I still wholeheartedly believe that I'm entitled to a true public apology. BET's non-apology statement added more insult to injury. What happened to me was not a 'miscommunication' nor was it 'unintentional'. It was wrong," he wrote.
