Kanye West Launches 'Got Bars', Mentoring Program for Chicago Youth
Kanye West is in the headlines again, but it is for a good cause as it was announced on Monday that he and Che "Rhymefest" Smith would launch 'Got Bars' music writing and Production Program for Chicago youth.
The two frequent collaborators released a joint statement about the importance of this new effort. It will be a 10-week program that teaches those involved how to learn and write music in a studio. Additionally, exercise, nutrition and life skills such as etiquette training, goal-setting and media literacy will also be taught.
'Got Bars' will work in conjunction with Donda's House and ARK youth center of South Side church, St. Sabina's. It will begin in August and to be eligible, participants have to be between the ages of 15 and 24.
"I am so happy to launch 'Got Bars' to honor Kanye West's mother's memory and to fulfill one of my Aldermanic campaign goals," Rhymefest said.
The Watch The Throne rapper also released a statement about the venture. He mentioned his late mother, Donda, as the reason why he has committed himself to this endeavor.
"My mom spent her life as an educator and I am happy that Donda's House can pick up her torch and honor her life's mission," West said.
