Leah Remini Explains Scientology Split: ‘I'm not about to shut up’
Leah Remini quit Scientology earlier this month and has now explained in detail as why.
Remini granted an interview to PEOPLE during an appearance at the 15th annual DesignCare event held in Malibu on July 27. The 43-year-old King of Queens actress seemingly admitted that she did challenge the higher ups of the religion. Reportedly, Remini was reprimanded by Scientology leader David Miscavige for questioning him.
"I believe that people should be able to question things. I believe that people should value family, and value friendships, and hold those things sacrosanct," she said.
Remini said that she would always continue to speak her mind regardless of the subject. She would not be censored in the name of religion, particularly one that forbids its members from communicating with those who do not share their faith.
"It wouldn't matter what it was, simply because no one is going to tell me how I need to think, no one is going to tell me who I can, and cannot, talk to," she said.
Remini said she would continue to speak freely and openly. She would not be intimidated.
"It doesn't matter, it could be anything. I thought about the family being broken up for some other cause, and I'm not about to shut up," she said.
