Country star Tim McGraw revealed in a People magazine interview that sobriety has helped not only his relationship with his family but also helped him to be more creative.

In the interview, he talks about his new album "Two Lanes of Freedom" and his decision to quit drinking five years ago.

"I drank a lot from my point of view and I needed to stop," McGraw says in the magazine. "I felt quitting was something I needed to do. I didn't feel I had any moral high ground with my kids in the long run."

As a replacement to alcohol, McGraw started working out, which includes weight training and an intense workout regimen.

"I'm in a good place right now. I want to enjoy my career and having my family. I have a busy life, but it is a fulfilling life."

Here are five other celebrities who have quit drugs or alcohol in the last few years.

Robert Downey Jr. -- Iron Man himself rebounded from numerous trips to court and jail to have himself a pretty decent career. Starring in one of the highest grossing movie franchises doesn't hurt, along with movies such as Tropic Thunder and Sherlock Holmes. He quit his drug of choice, cocaine, in 1996.

Jane Lynch -- The star of "Glee" has not taken a single drink since 1991. Her realization came when she discovered that she was drunk pretty much every day and felt hung over all the time. She has gone on to appear in numerous movies and television shows and even hosted the 2011 Emmy Awards.

Ben Affleck -- Oscar winner for writing "Good Will Hunting," Affleck quit drinking after a stay in rehab in 2001. He told The Mirror, "As you grow older, you have more responsibilities and you have to step up to them. I'm pretty happy." He has definitely stepped up after his marriage to actress Jennifer Garner and proud father of three kids. Did I mention he just won a Best Director Golden Globe for "Argo"?

Drew Barrymore -- Barrymore did most of her partying when she was younger ... at age 11. She admitted that she was an alcoholic at 11, smoked marijuana at 12 and a cocaine addict by 13. She went to rehab twice and tried to commit suicide at the age of 14. She got a lot of her deviant living out of the way early and is not married with a child and a successful production that has put on movies like Charlie's Angels and 50 First Dates. Things turned around for her ... with the exception of being married to Tom Green for a year but we will forget about that.

Eminem -- The Grammy-award winning rapper faced an addiction to anti-depressants after the death of his close friend and D-12 mate, Proof. One of the allies during Marshall Mathers's career was Elton John and it was John who helped pulled Eminem out from under addiction. "Me and him have had similar lives and stuff. So I reached out to him and told him, 'Look, I'm going through a problem and I need your advice.'"
