Why Dunham Thanked Chad Lowe At The 2013 Golden Globes
One of the most memorable moments of the 2013 Golden Globe Awards took place when Lena Dunham thanked Chad Lowe during her acceptance speech.
The actress won two Globes during the evening: Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical Series and Best Comedy/Musical Series for her HBO show "Girls."
After receiving the latter award, Dunham said, "I also promised myself if I ever got this chance, I would thank Chad Lowe," per the Associated Press.
So what compelled Dunham to thank Chad Lowe?
According to E! Online, the comment was in reference to Hilary Swank's famous acceptance speech at the 2000 Oscars. Swank, who won the Best Actress award for her role in "Boys Don't Cry," forgot to thank her then-husband Chad Lowe.
The relationship between Dunham and Lowe started back in August, according to TVGuide. At the time, Dunham tweeted that she had forgotten to thank a writer in an interview she did for the New Yorker, per Zap2It. The actress then compared this to Swank's famous slight of her husband back in 2000.
Lowe then tweeted Dunham back, writing that he would feel better about the so-called "Oscars debacle" if Dunham wrote a role for him on her show.
Dunham then responded, "What a day-maker you are! FYI I will probably mention you if I ever receive any award at all in my lifetime (and I too am a fan.)"
Lowe then took to Twitter during the ceremony to comment on Dunham's actions.
"Congrats to @lenadunham on your Golden Globe win," he wrote on Sunday night. "But, seriously? You forget to thank me?! After all we've been through? I'm shocked."
Later on, presumably after Dunham did thank Lowe, the actor tweeted, "Dearest @lenadunham YOU COMPLETE ME."
As a result of Dunham's actions, Chad Lowe's name soon began trending worldwide on Twitter, a fact that did not go unnoticed by Lowe himself.
"Now that I'm trending worldwide (finally) does that mean I don't have to give my daughters a bath or change their diapers anymore?" he wrote.
However, at least one person in the Lowe household was not amused. A Twitter page called @ikimlowe, which claims to be run by Chad Lowe's wife Kim, wrote back at the actor, "Ummm, you're not 'trending' in this house right now, bub, so no, Not a chance! Ps mabel needs a bath ... now!!! ;)."
Mabel Lowe, the couple's first daughter, was born in 2009, per People.com.
