Shakira Gives Birth! Gerard Pique Announces Baby On Twitter…As A Joke
Shakira gave birth...except she didn't. The singer's boyfriend, soccer star Gerard Pique, turns out to have a funny side as he joked about the birth of his son on Twitter.
Pique, who plays for Barcelona FC, took to Twitter on Thursday, Dec. 27 to announce his exciting (and fake) news.
"Our son has been born! We are very happy! Thanks to all for your messages," he posted in Spanish.
Fans were skeptical as the upcoming "Voice" judge only announced her pregnancy in mid September. The 35-year-old had posted her announcement on her website on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
"As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby! At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days."
As many guessed, the math doesn't really add up to Shakira giving birth in December. And fortunately for curios fans, Pique cleared up the confusion a couple hours later. The 25-year-old soccer star followed up his first tweet about the baby with another:
"It has a name! His name is Innocent! Happy Dia de los Inocentes to all!"
Gerard Pique was of course referring to the Day of the Holy Innocents holiday. In Spain, Dia de los Inocentes is the equivalent to America's April Fool's day.
