Nicki Minaj 'Scared' Of ‘American Idol’ Debut; Fears Being The Mean Judge [VIDEO]
Nicki Minaj is "scared" of how she will come across on the new season of "American Idol."
The rapper told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show Monday that she fears some of her critiques may have been too tough.
'Everyone else is so nice," Minaj said, per the Daily Mail. "I was just thinking back about some things and I was like, 'I wonder if that was not so nice.'
"I don't think I'm going to be able to watch it. I'm going to be so nervous. But I know people are going to love it. I think it's a great dynamic."
Minaj joins Mariah Carey and Keith Urban as the newest judges on the hit reality show. They will replace Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, who each left the series following the 2012 season. Randy Jackson will also return for his 12th season, which premieres on Wednesday, January 16.
Nicki Minaj also told Seacrest, however, that she's not scared of giving the contestants criticism if necessary.
"It's just weird for me because I feel as an artist I've always grown more from the tougher criticism, and so I would like to be that person and try to help people get a thicker skin and really give it their all, because it is a competition," she said, per Digital Spy.
Indeed, a recent promo for the latest season shows Minaj having fun with the contestants, but also giving them some harsh reality. She tells one Idol wannabe that she likes him, but not his singing voice. You can check out the full ad below.
