'How I Met Your Mother' Season 8 Spoilers: Who Became Baby Marvin's Nanny In Episode 3, 'Nannies?'
If the TV Gods will not give "How I Met Your Mother" one last season at least season eight will go out with a good laugh and a lot of "awws." The gang once again brought the hysterics (along with a few tears) with episode three of season eight, "Nannies."
With baby Marvin 'Wait-For-It' Eriksen now in the picture, it was only a matter of time before Lily had to return to work and was forced to get a nanny. (Girlfriend has a serious shopping addiction, remember?) Like any first time parent, Lily and Marshall found themselves having a difficult time finding a person suitable (and affordable) enough to care for their newborn. But luckily they have Barney, who has such a good heart...
Celebrating his new-found single life with 'Bangtoberfest,' Barney realized he was getting a little tired of his old pick-up lines. Being the good friend that he is, he took Lily and Marshall's nanny-search situation and made it his own. Pretending to be a single father, Barney went on Heynannynanny.com to "recruit" (and definitely take advantage of) nannies.
Barney's nanny wooing eventually affects Lily and Marshall when his scheme scares away a suitable candidate. But when Barney makes a mistake he generally tries to correct it, and in a heartwarming move he pays a qualified elderly nanny to care for Marvin when Lily returns to work. Nothing is ever that easy though. Even with an awesome (and already paid) for nanny, Lily can't bear to leave Marvin.
Staying home from work, Lily takes a long nap with Marvin in her arms, but wakes up to find that the baby has been replaced with a stuffed monkey! So, who ends up taking care of the baby? Mickey, Lily's (very odd board game obsessed) father! Mickey fed, changed and even put Marvin down for a nap, but his behavior comes as a surprise to his daughter.
"That's incredible! When did you get so good with? kids?" Lily asks her dad. It turns out that Mickey was actually a stay-at-home dad when Lily was younger. Whipping out a photo album, Mickey shows Lily all the time they spent together before he developed a rather nasty gambling addiction.
Really pulling out the "Aww" factor, Mickey revealed to Lily that while he wasn't there for her (and regrets it), he promises to be there for Marvin...if she wants. Lily and Marshall accept Mickey as their new nanny, and a flashforward shows that Mickey actually did a good job.
"How I Met Your Mother" airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. on CBS.
