Jimmy Kimmel: The Emmy Awards Will Be ‘Lively From Beginning To End’ Did He Deliver?

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel made Emmy history when he hosted the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, on Sunday.

With a list of successful predecessors like Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Fallon and Conan O'Brien,  Kimmel had every right to be "intimidated" at the prospect of hosting the show. He told CNN, he would deliver a "lively" show "from beginning to end," did he keep his part of the bargain?

While the comedian kept the audience as well as home viewers on their toes with his clever jabs and the predicable but equally satisfying current events bits, a "Lively" pace he did not keep - but that's not to say he was a terrible host.

While he failed to get major laughs from one-liners like "Hey, I don't want to jinx it but we've had a winner in every category," which he peppered in between wins, he did have quite a few winning moments.

Take a look at a few Kimmel gaffs that kept the audience awake and home viewers from reaching for a bottle of Jack:

Good television "is the only American product the Chinese haven't figured out how to make," joked  Kimmel.

"Let's not forget, in a way, all of you are winners tonight, but in a much more literal way, most of you will be losers."

"The important thing is we get out of here and you can put on your fat pants."

"If you ever wondered what happens during the commercial breaks backstage, try to imagine all your favorite TV stars all in one room, checking their phones and ignoring each other," he quipped.

But the award for best Emmy moment has to go to Julia Louis-Dreyfus for her hilarious acceptance speech. The actress took home the Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for the HBO series "Veep."

"First of all, I'd like to thank NBC, 'Parks and Rec,' my beautiful boys, Archie and Abel ..." she said, hesitating, before the cameras panned to competitor  Amy Poehler, who high-tailed it up on the stage to give her the correct speech.

The speech ended with her proclaiming, "isn't it a shame that Amy Poehler didn't win. What?" the cameras quickly cut to Poelher, nodding with a sly you-can-say-that-again expression.
