Opinion Piece: My Top Picks For Emmy Snubs
The 2012 Emmy nods have been announced, and part of the traditional coverage is calling out the shows and actors who were snubbed. Some absences were surprising, some were expected, and some are so frustrating you might have felt it necessary to watch an hour of cute cat videos just to deal with the injustice of it all. Here are my six snub picks for this year's Emmy nominations.
Outstanding Comedy Series-"Community"
The Internet has been lamenting Community's lack of nominations for three years now, and knowing that season three was the last with show runner Dan Harmon makes the snub sting even more. Season three had so many great, truly creative episodes from the multi-scenario "Remedial Chaos Theory" to the pixelated "Digital Estate Theory."
Lead Actress in a Drama-Emmy Rossum
As Fiona Gallagher, surrogate mother to her five younger siblings, Emmy Rossum has delivered another powerful performance in season two of "Shameless." Her few emotional breakdowns are dramatic and raw, but her real strength as an actress lies in the quieter moments; she nails expressions of joy and hopelessness.
Supporting Actor in a Drama-Peter Dyckman
It seems almost ridiculous to ask for another nomination for "Mad Men," and Jared Harris absolutely deserves his nod for his portrayal of a man driven to suicide, but I think Dyckman deserves some recognition as well. This season he was able to make Pete Campbell, an unlikable character for four season, seem pitiable. That's no small feat.
Supporting Actor in a Comedy-Danny Pudi
Pudi's performance as the quirky yet oddly socially aware Abed on "Community" has only gotten better with each season. His turn as "evil Abed" this season only added to his range.
Supporting Actor in a Comedy- Rico Rodriquez
Every single adult member of the "Modern Family" cast grabbed a well deserved nomination this year, but it would have been nice to recognize Rodriquez performance as Manny Delgado. More than just a cute kid, Rodriquez has proved he has excellent comedic timing and can more than handle a serious turn.
