President Barack Obama To Visit The Set Of The Jackie Robinson Biopic '42'
President Barack Obama is heading to the set of the Jackie Robinson biopic "42." The White House put in a request to visit the set in Atlanta and will be there on Tuesday. The president will be in town for some fundraisers.
Legendary Entertainment chief Thomas Tull said he received a call earlier this week from the White House asking if it would be "OK" to visit the set.
"Well, of course I said it would be OK," Tull said.
"42," which was Robinson's uniform number, details Robinson's 1947 rookie season with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The film stars Harrison Ford as Dodgers GM Branch Rickey and Chadwick Boseman as Jackie Robinson and is directed by Brian Helgeland. President Obama brought up Robinson recently at a fundraiser hosted by Willie Mays.
"The fact is, we don't make that history unless there are people like Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays, who helped to lay the groundwork for a more inclusive America," Obama said on June 5. "And so we could not be prouder of [Mays], and he could not be more gracious."
"42" is scheduled to be released on April 12, 2013.
