Christina Applegate Returns In ‘Anchorman 2,’ Judd Apatow Confirms

Christina Applegate recently opened up to E! News that while a sequel to 2004's "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" is in the works, she had yet to be asked back.  It seems like "Anchorman" producer Judd Apatow was listening because he told E! News on Monday night that, "She will be back!"

Apatow continued that they are currently negotiating with the actress, and if all goes well Applegate will be on set.

Applegate starred as Veronica Corningstone, a female anchor who becomes co-anchors with Ron Burgundy, "San Diego's top rated newsman." Set in the 1970's the comedy highlights the changes made to a male dominated broadcasting world when a female employee joins the team.

While fellow co-star David Koechner, who played Champ Kind in the film, confirmed to reporters that Applegate would be returning as Corningstone, Applegate states that no one ever approached her.

"Of course I would love to be there," she told E! News. "They know that. The world knows that. Why would I not want to? It's the best job I've ever had - that and "Sweet Charity." They know that I want to be there...Even if it's just a walk-on."

While it looks like Applegate won't just be a walk-on, Apatow did tease that many celebrities could be making cameos.

"I know they want to do a lot of that [celebrity cameos]. I just don't know who they're specifically thinking about."

"Anchorman 2" won't begin filming until February 2013.
