'Sesame Street' Headed To The Big Screen
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sesame Street is headed to the big screen.
The movie, which is set to go into production in July, will be put out by 20th Century Fox and the script will be penned by "Sesame Street" writer Joey Mazzarino. Shawn Levy and his 21 Laps banner, Michael Aguilar, Mark Gordon and Film 360's Guymon Casady will produce the film.
"Sesame Street" was created by Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett and debuted in 1969. Over 4,300 episodes have aired since on mostly PBS stations and the episodes feature a combination of live-action and puppetry, as well as animation. Many celebrtiies have also guest starred on the series and two movies have spawned from it, 1985's "Follow That Bird" and "1999's The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland." Bird featured John Candy, Chevy Chase and Dave Thomas.
"Sesame Street" features Jim Henson-created characters Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster and Elmo. The series has won 138 Emmys and it is estimated that one in three Americans has watched it.
