Saturday rolled by with much anticipation as thousands cruised through the day waiting for the Red Hot Chili Peppers to take the What Stage later on that evening. The band, who has been playing together for almost 30 years, definitely wowed the crowd as they put on an enthusiastic performance filled with a ton of hits.
Playing "Californication" and "Throw Away Your Television," the Red Hot Chili Peppers threw the audience into a wild frenzy filled with dancing, rogue glow sticks and of course a cloud of smoke.
Lead singer Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea rocked similar attire on stage, an odd pants/shorts combo in which half of the pants were cut off into shorts. To make the outfit complete, both artists wore a single tube sock on the one bare leg.
The band played a couple new songs, "Look Around" and "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie," off of their latest album "I'm With You." The new album features Red Hot Chili Peppers most recent addition to the band, guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. Klinghoffer was a natural on stage, having played with the band since 2007.
Flea had the audience roaring with the first couple of chords. In between songs the famous bassist played with a goofy smile on his grin, and occasionally chatted up the crowd. "Radiohead was so f***ing beautiful," he told the crowd of the bands performance the night before.
The band closed their set with 2002's "By The Way," but a demanding crowd made the Red Hot Chili Peppers return to the What stage to perform "Suck My Kiss," "Ethiopia" and "Give It Away."
The Red Hot Chili Peppers, with Klinghoffer, was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
