Nia Vardalos, the actress and writer who penned the hit comedy film "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," has inked a book deal to discuss her experiences adopting her daughter and the long process it entailed.

The book, which has yet to get a title, will be published by HarperOne, a division of HarperCollins, and is scheduled for release in April 2013, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"We are thrilled to publish Nia Vardalos and even more excited to offer this important new resource on successful adoption," HarperOne publisher Mark Tauber said in a statement, according to THR. "We believe that Nia's story and the information in this book will help many, many people."

Vardalos, 49, and her husband, "Cougar Town" actor Ian Gomez, adopted their daughter in 2008. Vardalos told THR that even though she's a public figure, writing a book on this particular topic was "new territory" for her.

"Even though I make fun of my family for profit, I am a private person," she said.

Vardalos, who went through fertility treatments to no avail, according to THR, has shared her adoption experiences before. She penned an article for the Huffington Post in January of 2009, in which she talked about her struggle to adopt due to the long and complicated process.

"A common misconception is that to get a kid you just have to go to another country and be as pretty as Angelina Jolie," she wrote. "As studio executives and movie reviewers have informed me again and again -- I'm not."

Vardalos, who is originally from Canada and became a U.S. citizen in 1999, and her husband were finally matched with their daughter in 2008. The little girl was three years old at the time, according to a Mother's Day essay the actress wrote for People magazine in 2009.

Vardalos mentioned her and her husband's decision to initially keep the adoption under wraps.

"And yes, she is perfect," Vardalos wrote in her Huffington Post piece. "She is a toddler, under the age of five, and to say she's adapted well would be a huge understatement. The experience of transitioning this child was astonishing and well, just too personal to go into now. We kept it quiet for almost a year to protect her privacy and give her time to adjust."

Now the "Connie and Carla" actress and writer will go into more detail about the experience. Judging by her previous work, this is one celebrity who will probably be doing the actual writing for her memoir, and sprinkle in some humor while she's at it.
